Development of the first Very Light Rotorcraft
1988 / 1996
Ing Covini has been part of team “Dragon Fly” of Angelo and Alfredo Castiglioni; the goal was to build the first VLR (Very Light Rotorcraft) helicopter in the world.
It is a new category where the manoeuvrability of an ultra-light meets the safety of a conventional helicopter, in that it can be flown without prior planning.
It is easy to fly in tight spaces and can perform manoeuvres which are dangerous in bigger machines. It has been adopted by various services.
Dragon Fly was produced in 65 exemplars with piston engines (like the original design).
Now it has received a restyling and a new turbine engine.
