Covini T44

T44 Soleado (1978), a sportscar with 4 wheel drive and innovative body shell made with modular flat interchangeable panels.

In 1978, the Covini T44 Soleado, powered by a turbocharged diesel engine, was presented at the Turin International Motor Show. The design, patents and prototype where bought in 1980 by the motor company VM Motori S.p.A. of Cento (near Ferrara), on behalf of Finmeccanica, to be produced within the group (by Alfa Romeo). The bankruptcy of Alfa Romeo in 1982 killed plans for a production run. In 1994 the prototype was bought by a body shop in Castel S. Giovanni.
